The High Court's Aging Liberal Wing

U.S. Supreme Court

Justice Scalia died a month shy of 80.  What are the ages of the remaining eight?

Kagan, 55

Sotomayor, 61

Roberts, 61

Alito, 65

Thomas, 67

Breyer, 77

Kennedy, 79

Ginsburg, 82

Two liberal justices and the Court's swing vote pace the field by over a decade -- three vacancies the next president could fill.  Republicans might be wise to stay away from full obstruction in filling Scalia's vacancy -- with the presidency up for grabs this fall, and the chance to even further entrench a conservative Supreme Court with a Republican president, the smart move might be to preserve some norms of comity among the Senate.
